Last month we learned from our guest speaker David Rosenstein why it's so important that we use our power as consumers to make sure our money isn't funding fossil fuels; now it's time to put that knowledge into action! Join us for a Green Banking Action Meeting where we'll go through the process of divesting yourself from dirty banks, discuss questions about practicalities, and talk about the roadblocks that keep us from giving up fossil fuels and how and why to get around them.

Feel free to join whether or not you attended last month's meeting; it's available on our YouTube channel if you missed it and want to catch up. If you'd like to come prepared, bring a list of the financial institutions you do business with--banks, credit cards, investments, insurance, etc. The helpful links and resources that David provided are on our website for those who want to get started.

This webinar will focus on the newly released CalHeatScore tool, a public health tool to help Californians stay informed, ready, and safe when temperatures rise. The purpose of CalHeatScore is to reduce heat-related illness and save lives by translating weather and health data into easy-to-understand heat scores, ranging from 0 to 4 to indicate increasing levels of human health risk from extreme heat impacts.

Learn about the history of CalHeatScore and how the tool can be used now. This series is a partnership effort between the Office of Enviornmental Health Hazard Assessment (OEHHA), the Governor's Office of Land Use and Climate Innovation (LCI), and the Los Angeles Regional Collaborative for Climate Action and Sustainability (LARC).

Following screenings of three short documentaries, filmmaker Adam Piron will lead a panel of Indigenous directors and cinematographers, including Sean and Gina Milanovich (The Water Flows Always), Isaiah Mendoza (The Aqueduct Between Us), and the media team of the Sacred Places Institute for Indigenous People, Maritza Alvarez, Nanobah Becker, and Spenser Jaimes (Our Water Ways), in a discussion about the activist potential of film and the ways Indigenous voices are leading efforts to protect water resources in their ancestral lands.

The site welcomes visitors and volunteers on the first Saturday of each month to see and sustain this sacred space. Please join fellow members of the L.A. Rally for Pollution-Free Appliances at AQMD

To express support for a transition to pollution-free space and water heating at South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD), LA Climate Reality will be participating in a Rally for Clean Air Appliances on Friday, June 6 at AQMD headquarters in Diamond Bar with Sierra Club and a coalition of environmental justice and clean air advocates. The AQMD Board is scheduled to take a final vote on rules 1111 and 1121, which are critical to reducing NOx pollution in Southern California and helping to transition homes off of fossil fuel appliances.

Join Project Save Our Surf for a fun afternoon of music and refreshments cleaning the beach. Buckets and gloves will also be provided for the cleanup. Connect with others in Los Angeles working to support our environment.

Supported by Beryl Foundation you can donate by choosing a donation ticket and choosing an amount.

Project Save Our Surf has also partnered with Project Pop Drop to collect items for the homeless they will be delivering to a homeless shelter on the last Saturday of the month (each month is a different shelter and details will be available at the cleanup for those who want to attend that event as well). They are collecting non-perishable foods and new toiletries, new socks, new underwear, new clothing etc.

Resilience & Rebuilding: The Los Angeles of Tomorrow

Resilience & Rebuilding is an open ended series of virtual programs exploring the impacts of the recent devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, offering a container for conversation and pathways for rebuilding that foreground ecology, community, and collective wellbeing. The goal of Resilience & Rebuilding is to develop guidance for rebuilding efforts, from within and beyond the art sector, over the months and years to come. In addition to inputs from scheduled speakers, we encourage attendees to share their testimony and questions in the chat as part of this evolving document.

The third program in the series will look to a future LA, reimagining a more resilient and environmentally responsible city of tomorrow. Speakers will consider visionary frameworks including architecture that emphasizes the commons, improved insurance systems, traditional ecological knowledge, and artist-led activism.
