Climate Changemakers Campaign Kickoff with Climate Reality!

Let’s prove what a group of organized advocates can do — for each other and our shared future — when we’ve got each other’s backs.

Billions in clean energy tax incentives — meant for families, schools, small businesses, and nonprofits — are about to vanish years early thanks to the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act.” Most people don’t even know to act now. That’s where we come in: spreading the word quickly to help people across our communities secure every dollar and win possible before these incentives expire. Read more to get amped up!

What to expect at the kickoff:

  • A 15-minute, jargon-free briefing

  • A roadmap with powerful, easy-to-use resources

  • Productive advocacy accomplished (in real time) within the hour

✨Zero experience or prep needed here. Just show up (seriously, come unprepared!). Curious what to expect? Read more here.

U.S. Green Building Council California’s Game Night is a fundraiser for the organization’s Environmental Justice Project and a chance to have fun with LA’s green building community. Fuel up with great food and drinks, then jump into the action, or just hang out and cheer on your team.

USGBC-CA's Environmental Justice Project began in 2016 with the goal of bridging the gap between social equity and environmental resiliency as we recognize certain communities are more impacted by effects of climate change. Historical injustices, de-facto segregation, and geographic location collaborate to create the resource disparities seen in California today, making equity a critical component of building a sustainable city for all residents.

Book Talk: Echoes from Eden: A Daring Voyage to Protect Earth's Last Wild Places

Dax Dasilva, a Canadian entrepreneur and founder of environmental nonproft Age of Union, will be at Vroman’s Bookstore in Pasadena to discuss his book Echoes from Eden: A Daring Voyage to Protect Earth's Last Wild Places.

Dax Dasilva launched the Age of Union Alliance to stop poaching and illegal logging, committing $40 million to safeguard the planet's last wild places. What followed was a journey into the heart of the Earth's most endangered landscapes--tracking Grauer's gorillas in the Congo with Dr. Kerry Bowman, navigating Amazonian rivers with Paul Rosolie and Junglekeepers, braving militia-held territories in Haiti to protect community forests, and sailing with Sea Shepherd to shut down illegal fishing operations in the Bay of Biscay.

Along the way, he met those who risk everything to defend the land: Dr. Jane Goodall and Juma Xipaya in the Amazon, Suzan Baptiste protecting the leatherback turtles of Trinidad, Dr. Russell Mittermeier conserving the endangered lemurs of Madagascar, and the fearless eco-warriors fighting in Indonesia, Canada, and beyond.

Seeds of Change Summit

The devastating wildfires that swept through Los Angeles in early January serve as a stark reminder of the climate crisis and its disproportionate impact on frontline communities. As these fires reshaped landscapes and lives, they also reignited the urgency for grassroots action and systemic change.

At the 2025 Seeds of Change Summit, held on Saturday, August 30th at UCLA—a hub of environmental research and activism—youth are gathering to grieve, to heal, to grow and transform crisis into collective action. This summit will bring together over 400 high school and college age youth leaders from across California who are on the frontlines of the climate crisis, particularly BIPOC youth from low-income communities.

Building on the success of past convenings—including our first Seeds of Change Summit at UC Berkeley in 2023, and regional gatherings at UC Irvine and UCSF Mission Bay in 2024 this year’s event will be our most expansive yet. Get ready for:

  • Youth-led workshops on climate justice, organizing, and community action

  • Healing spaces that honor the trauma of climate disasters while cultivating joy

  • Coalition-building across lines of race, class, and geography

  • Opportunities to share lived experiences and seed long-term campaigns for change

August Chapter Meeting with Michael Schneider

Please register today for our August chapter Zoom call, featuring a conversation with Michael Schneider, Founder of Streets For All.

A lifelong Angeleno, Michael founded Streets For All in 2019 to make LA’s streets safe for all modes of transportation. Having traded his car for a bicycle a decade ago, Michael became curious about why LA— with the world’s best weather — has some of the world’s worst bike infrastructure.

Michael led Healthy Streets LA, which became a ballot measure on the March 2024 ballot in the City of Los Angeles. Voters approved Measure HLA by an overwhelming majority, making safer streets in Los Angeles mandatory. Other Streets For All transformative Projects include Venice Blvd For All (dedicated bus and bike lanes), Destruction for Nada (stopping freeway widening), and Marina Central Park (housing and park instead of a freeway). The organization is also active in Sacramento, where its helped make or change laws to further the cause
