The Oceanic Global Short Film Festival — Los Angeles Premiere

The Oceanic Global Short Film Festival — Los Angeles Premiere

Four short films, selected by an international jury including Dr. Sylvia Earle, James Honeyborne, David Maisel, Xiye Bastida, and Dr. Cliff Kapono. From the ice of Greenland to the humpbacks of Tonga, from the Senegalese coastline to a reimagined journey of wild salmon — each film opens a different door to the sea, through environmental, cultural, and deeply human eyes.

But this is more than a screening. A live soundscape fills the space before a single frame rolls. Guest speakers carry the conversation beyond the credits. And the films themselves, spanning the categories of Human Connection, Living Systems, and Discovery, alongside the recipient of the Open Water Grand Jury Prize — are chosen precisely because they don't just show the ocean. They make you feel it.

Come ready to be moved, and to awaken new depths, not only of compassion and understanding for the ocean, but of your own capacity to protect it.

LACRP EVENT: Legislative Committee
May
25
7:30 PM19:30

LACRP EVENT: Legislative Committee

The Legislative Committee meets on the fourth Monday of each month.

This session, our committee is focused on five key pillars:

  • Clean Energy & Decarbonization: Championing bills like SB 222 and SB 868 to streamline heat pump permitting and expand "plug-and-play" balcony solar access for renters and multifamily residents.

  • Water Security: Strengthening regional resilience through AB 2026, which accelerates groundwater recharge during wet seasons.

  • Environmental Justice: Pushing for enforceable limits on nitrogen pollution (AB 2447) and establishing health-based standards for toxic hydrogen sulfide (SB 58) to protect our frontline communities.

  • Accountability: Demanding transparency from large energy users via AB 1577, requiring data centers to report monthly energy and water consumption.

  • Biodiversity: Advocating for the California Grizzly Restoration Act (SB 1305) and protecting critical monarch butterfly habitats (AB 2254).

Our strength lies in grassroots advocacy and over the course of the summer, we intend to make "clear asks" of our state representatives to champion these solutions.

Centennial Celebration - Great Park Coalition Picnic

Join us at Clover Park on Saturday, April 25th from 12–2:30 PM for a bring-your-own-picnic, as we celebrate the 100th anniversary of Santa Monica’s original Great Park, once known as Clover Field Park, purchased with a Park Bond in 1926.

Pack your own picnic lunch, plus chairs or a blanket, and show up for Great Park connection and community. We’ll offer free hot dogs, soft drinks, and cupcakes. There will be face painting for the kids, as well as sports and art activities for all! Take home pollinator plant seedlings to support bees, butterflies, and a healthier local ecosystem. Pups can pose in our Great Park bandanas at the photo spot; opt in to have your furry friend featured in our “Dogs of the Great Park” E-blast and on social media.

Come meet the Great Park Coalition board and  your fellow park advocates, and enjoy a great afternoon together.
