Water & Energy Committee
In 2026, the Water Committee is being expanded to cover water and energy topics. Water and energy are closely linked, as moving water around the state consumes a surprisingly large percentage of our state’s electric power. And producing renewable energy uses less water than conventional fossil fuel sources. Both water and energy have traditionally been the focus of efficiency campaigns and both our water and energy system face climate-induced challenges that call for new solutions.
Please join this committee to learn about new clean solutions to our energy and water challenges. We meet on the third Friday of each month at 3:30pm.

Our Advocacy to Solve California’s Water Challenges
The majority of Los Angeles County and California experience frequent severe or extreme drought. Water conservation has been the traditional approach to the solution. Recently, however, the entire state of California has received unprecedented atmospheric rivers and storms prompting devastating floods. As a result of its inadequate infrastructure, the state is simultaneously experiencing extreme drought and flooding. Climate change has and will continue to exacerbate already extreme weather including droughts, floods, and storms. The problem, however, is so dire it requires individual action, collective action, and policies and legislation to go further than they have before.
The Water Committee works in collaboration with the San Fernando Valley Chapter, the California Coalition, and Climate Action California to advocate the following proposed solutions to mitigate drought and establish water abundance:
Expand sustainable water infrastructure: water recycling and rainwater harvesting
Improve the electric grid and mix
Promote and expand sustainable/water-wise agriculture
Promote and expand nature-based solutions, naturally inspired infrastructure and landscaping that mirrors natural designs/systems and increases water retention
In addition to its advocacy, the Water Committee coordinates engagements, presentations, and workshops to educate and promote awareness of the water cycle, current water crises, and sustainable solutions.
