Students of LAUSD:

Your school is mandated to have climate education.

The Board of Education of LAUSD has passed a Climate Literacy Resolution that climate/ climate justice issues should be taught in every grade, every class so that all students have assignments that help them practice using their talents to address climate.

Your school is mandated to have a Climate Champion.

The Climate Literacy Resolution also states that every school is supposed to have a Climate Champion. A Climate Champion is an adult who helps other teachers work climate justice issues into their classrooms, and get students outdoors and into nature. The UTLA Contract also states the same.

The Climate Curricula Youth Action Committee ASKS you to

  1. Find out if your school has a Climate Champion: Look here for a map of all schools that have Climate Champions or ask your principal.

  2. If you have a Climate Champion, ask to meet and plan with them.

  3. If not, talk with your principal to sign up for one. Here’s how they can do so.

  4. Fill out our form so we can help.

Don’t wait: Eco Clubs in every school support each other.

An Eco Club (You decide on a name) is students who work together to get climate awareness and action at their school and beyond. We can help: climate.curricula@gmail.com. Text Lucy Garcia: 818-618-3831.

One way to start: Students notice that it is hard to talk about climate so some students have started a Climate Cafe–a regular day and place where people can come to talk/learn about it. Here’s a board game to get you started.
