LAUSD Parents!

Are your children being prepared for our climate changing world?

Are they learning what is actually happening and the goals we need to meet to keep climate crises from getting worse?

Are they learning solutions? About what narratives and systems they need to help change?

Are they being taught to think carefully about what jobs will look like, what skills they will need?

Are they getting practice using their own talents to address these challenges?

These lessons, assignments, and activities promote a child’s mental health and agency.

Your Child’s school is mandated to have climate education.

The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) passed a Climate Literacy Resolution in February 2022. The resolution commits LAUSD to “transforming our teaching of climate change to meet the scale and urgency of the crises by implementing, infusing, and developing climate change education across all curricula, and in every grade PK-12.”

The resolution calls for establishing Climate Champion positions at all schools. A Climate Champion at your school has the work of helping your student’s teachers teach climate and climate justice issues to better prepare your child.

Our Climate Curricula Youth Action Committee asks that you:

  1. Find out if your school has a Climate Champion: Look here for a map of all schools that have Climate Champions or ask your principal.

  2. If you have a Climate Champion, ask to meet them, or ask them to address your parent committee.

  3. If not, talk with your principal to nominate a climate champion. Here’s who’s in charge.

  4. Fill out our form so we can help.
