  • Exposition Park Area Exposition Park Los Angeles, CA 90062 United States (map)

Help us transform a traditional lawn into habitat and learn how and why!

Join the Los Angeles Neighborhood Council Sustainability Alliance, LA Climate Reality, Surfrider, and others for the third annual “Lawn to Habitat” event. This hands-on volunteer and learning opportunity transforming a water-hungry, monoculture grass lawn on a multifamily property into a biodiverse habitat zone that captures rainwater, reintroduces threatened native plants to the neighborhood, and supports pollinators and the web of life in our local ecosystem over the course of two days.

Volunteers will have an opportunity to learn about reconditioning compacted soil, creating eco-friendly weed barriers, determining soil type, mulching, planting techniques and establishment care for California native plants, water capture design options, and much more.

The location is in Los Angeles 90062 (sign up to see exact location). Street parking is available but limited. Public transit information: The Western stop on the Metro E line is a 12-minute walk away. The 206 and 40 buses stop a few blocks south of the site at Normandie and Martin Luther King.

Six volunteer slots are available March 7-8, 8AM - 5PM. Volunteers must be 12 years of age or older.
