Ocean Friendly Garden Workdays restore the functions of healthy watersheds to prevent pollution from reaching the ocean and protect clean water. The native plants we are planting will also boost biodiversity, conserve water, and store carbon long term.

Upon arrival, you will learn a bit more about our Ocean Friendly Garden program and be equipped to create and maintain a garden that supports clean water in local waterways and beaches. We'll be digging rainwater retention features, planting native plants and trees, and spreading mulch to transform an unused patch of grass next to the Marina parking lot. This project is part of an ongoing collaboration between Surfrider Long Beach, Long Beach Utilities, and the Marine Bureau to remove non-functional turf grass & transform it into Ocean Friendly Gardens.
