Our local community has been ravaged by extreme wildfires that are exacerbated by climate change. Moving forward, it will be necessary to consider many possible options to prevent the excessive physical destruction, loss of life and economic calamity that we have collectively suffered. Researchers are working on a wide variety of solutions that could potentially mitigate these devastating impacts. How do we, as a community, participate in conversations about high-level technical approaches BEFORE they are developed, deployed and implemented?
In this interactive workshop, we’ll learn together how to engage in productive dialogue that allows us to make difficult decisions amidst uncertainty. Facilitators will lead attendees through a case study looking at technical approaches to enhancing resilience to climate change-induced wildfire. Our small group discussions will focus on how to ask insightful questions about technologies, how to share and understand risks, benefits, uncertainties and trade-offs, and how to get decision-makers and technical experts to listen, and be responsive, to our collective concerns.
