Hidden in Plain Sight: Connecting with Urban Nature

  • Sovern LA 5757 West Adams Boulevard Los Angeles, CA, 90016 United States (map)

Have you ever experienced a sense of peace and well-being in nature? In a city shaped by concrete and commerce, to live in reciprocity with nature is a form of resistance. Join artist and photographer, Maiz Connolly, as she shares her insights on how to connect with and appreciate nature everywhere, even on a busy street in Mid-City. Together we’ll slow down, listen, and attune to the overlooked ecologies that persist and thrive between the cracks: wild plants reclaiming sidewalks, the flight patterns of city birds, the abundance of our neighborhood gardens. Through conversation, mindful observation, and photography (using phones with an additional provided lens) we’ll reflect on how a practice of reconnecting with nature around us can inspire creativity, nurture post-extractive futures, and strengthen our collective capacity for care and imagination.
