Learn about how this stretch of urban habitat impacts biodiversity, energy, water, waste, pollution, and our local identity.  Meet at the Westwood gate on the northwest side of the train.

11:30AM - 3PM Weeding and other Maintenance (Stay as long as you want.  Late arrivals welcome)

Support biodiversity by clearing out invasive non-native plants.  Guides will divide you into teams with tasks for all levels of physical ability.  The organizers will be on-site the whole time, but if you are only available for part of this period, that’s all good.

What to Wear

Be sure to have adequate sun protection (and rain protection if applicable). We recommend a hat. Hiking or work boots are best (no open-toed shoes). Wear clothes that can get wet and/or dirty. Some of the invasive plant removal will be in and around a small creek that is a foot deep and four feet wide. If you have some waders or rubber boots and never get to use them, this is your chance! We have other areas if wet is not your thing.

What to Bring

A water bottle or hydration bladder. There is no potable water at the greenway. Sturdy gloves that can get wet/dirty. Some garden implements will be provided, but if you have any of the following and can bring them, that would be very helpful: Weeding Fork, Hand Shovel, Hatchet, Pruning Shears. If you like to use a personal weeding mat to protect your knees, feel free to bring yours. No power outlets and no secure storage exist at the greenway. Plan accordingly. If you want snacks, feel free to bring something to keep your energy up, akin to what you might bring on a hike. No food will be provided.

What NOT to Bring

This is a Zero Waste Event. Please do not bring any items to the greenway that you will leave as waste or pass out to create waste. If you bring food for yourself, please pack out your waste.

Extra volunteers are welcome! Please note that this event is not designed for small children, and there are dangers including falls and drowning. We recommend this as an age 12 and up event, but if you bring any children, please be responsible for them.

This is a habitat restoration project. Please do not bring pets.
