Demystifying the CA Department of Justice

The Office of Community Awareness, Response, and Engagement (CARE) at the California Department of Justice hosts quarterly webinars “Demystifying the Department of Justice”. The topic for this one is Housing. We are sharing because we think the topic may appeal to members given the current work of the CA DOJ, the housing crisis, and the relation of both to the climate crisis and environmental justice.

On November 3, 2021 Attorney General Rob Bonta established the Housing Justice Team within the DOJ – a team comprised of attorneys with expertise in housing, consumer protection, tenants’ rights, land use, environmental justice and civil rights. The Housing Justice team works with state agencies and other partners to address the housing crisis on a systemic level, and, when required, to enforce state laws aimed at increasing housing supply and providing housing security and stability to all Californians.

The purpose of this webinar is to share information about the Housing Justice Team and answer questions on its efforts to address housing in California.
