For our July call we were joined by Jessica Aldridge, Director of Sustainability and Zero Waste at Athens Services. She is also currently a Southern District board representative for California Resource and Recovery Association and a founding coalition member of ReusableLA.

In conversation with LA Climate Reality's Charles Miller, Aldridge, a recognized leader in the Zero Waste movement and former LA Climate Reality ambassador, tells the chapter about how her efforts early in her career to start a green team at a hospital lead her to a role Burbank Recycling Center, putting her on her on current career trajectory.

In the interview, Aldridge talks about extended producer responsibility, and how she’s hopeful about the change SB 54 will introduce in California’s waste management system. The aim of this legislation is to put the responsibility on producers for the waste they produce and requires them to work with processors to ensure they can do their part. It will also allow for smaller communities to develop infrastructure to process waste.

Jessica Aldridge is a recognized sustainability leader with a focus on food recovery and complex waste diversion strategies.

Aldridge encourages people to make their voices heard. Activism, through both voting and public opinion, is a way to ensure the government and companies know what’s most important.

In the meantime, she also encourages people to reassess their recycling habits and compost and as much as possible. For a guide on both click here.
